Standard monthly refuse collection to increase $2

Post Date:01/03/2025 3:08 PM

The following adjustments to residential curbside collection are effective, starting Jan. 1. These updates ensure that our services remain efficient and sustainable.

Refuse Collection Rate Changes:

  • Standard monthly rate: Increasing from $25 to $27.
  • Senior rate (established before June 1, 2022): Increasing from $12.50 to $13.50 per month.
  • Senior rate (established on or after June 1, 2022): Increasing to $20.25 per month.

The changes will be reflected in the January utility bill arriving in early February.

Residential rates were last adjusted in 2022. Rates are calculated based on several components, including staffing, equipment replacement, fuel, disposal fees, landfill management, and general operating expenses. As these costs rise, rates must be adjusted to align with expenditures. As an example, the cost of the specialized vehicles required for curbside services has risen almost 30 percent. City of Delaware refuse service operates as an enterprise fund. This means it is required to be self-sustaining, without taking money from the general budget.

City of Delaware customers receive one monthly bill for all utility charges: refuse (and recycling and yard waste), water, sewer and storm sewer.

The City of Delaware remains committed to providing exceptional service while managing costs responsibly. If you have any questions about the new rates, please contact us at 740-203-1810 or pwcs@delawareohio.net
