DELAWARE - The City of Delaware has earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s prestigious Triple Crown Award for the fourth consecutive year. The 2024 recognition honors governments that have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award within the same fiscal year.

Delaware is one of only nine municipal governments in Ohio to receive the Triple Crown designation and has now achieved the honor four years in a row.

Alycia Hefner, Finance Director, said the recognition reflects Delaware’s ongoing commitment to transparency and quality in financial reporting.

“Transparency is critical for our residents so they can better understand where the City receives revenues and how those funds are spent,” she said. “Receiving the Triple Crown Award for a fourth straight year demonstrates our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality financial information to our community.”

The three awards included in the Triple Crown honor are:

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting recognizes governments that achieve the goal of preparing annual comprehensive financial reports that show transparency and full disclosure.

Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award honors governments that extract information from their annual comprehensive financial report to produce high-quality popular annual financial reports specifically designed to be readily accessible and easily understandable to the public and other interested parties.

Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes governments that prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices.
