Fire and Police Services
Delaware serves and protects with professional police and fire services. Our record of safety is due in large part to exceptional Police and Fire Departments. The Police Department is the largest city department, with more than 60 full-time employees. The department annually handles more than 60,000 calls for service. The department works with its citizens to provide a safe community and strives to enhance the quality of life for all. This vision includes creative and award-winning programs that focus on the concept of problem-solving policing.
The Fire Department operates out of two fire stations with more than 40 uniformed personnel for fire fighting and emergency medical service, handling more than 4,000 responses annually. Regardless of the need, the objective is the same: Protect the lives and property of the citizens of Delaware from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by man or nature. To do this, the department uses technology and other resources to increase fire-fighting and EMS capacity, while stiving to decrease response times.
