The Wastewater division mission is to protect public health and provide environmental responsibility by efficiently and effectively conveying and treating the City of Delaware’s domestic and industrial wastewater.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant is ultimately responsible for the treatment of all domestic and industrial wastewater from within the city and for the disposal of the sewage sludge producedduring the wastewater treatment process. This is accomplished by abiding by all rules and regulations set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. Plant operators maintain the wastewater plant and 15 pump stations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure that the plant and equipment are operating correctly. The staff is a highly educated and trained, and their professionalism is reflected by the fact that there have been no violations of our NPDES permit for over five years.
The city is better prepared to serve its needs after fully bringing on-line the expanded and upgraded wastewater treatment facility. Capacity was increased from 5.5 million gallons per-day to 10 million gallons per day.
